Meet the Team

Marie Barrett is the Foundation Manager of the Smurfit Westrock Foundation, a position she assumed following her appointment as Finance Manager in March 2022. Marie joined Smurfit Westrock in 2006 as a Treasury Accountant and progressed to the role of Group Accountant in 2012, based at the company’s headquarters in Dublin. She is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and holds a B.Sc. in Business Studies and Finance from Dublin City University. Her connection to the Foundation began in 2013, when she took on the voluntary role of Director. She served in this capacity with dedication until recently stepping down upon completion of her tenure.

Juan Guillermo Castañeda was Chief Executive Officer, The Americas from 2014 until January 2022. He was previously the Vice President of Finance, Human Resources and Administration for The Americas since July 2010.  Juan Guillermo joined the company in 1984 and held various finance and operational positions including Vice President of Finance in Colombia. He went on to manage the Sacks division between 2009 and 2010. Juan Guillermo was appointed as Director and Chairman to Smurfit Westrock Foundation in May 2022. 

Gillian joined the Group in 2009 and held roles within the Group Finance function before her appointment as Assistant Group Secretary in 2016 and Company Secretary in 2020. Gillian was subsequently appointed as Group Chief Human Resources Officer in 2026. Gillian is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ireland and holds a Certificate in Company Secretarial Law and Practice. Gillian was appointed as Director to Smurfit Westrock Foundation in May 2022.

Garrett Quinn was appointed Group Chief Sustainability Officer in July 2021 and took on Branding and Communications in 2026. He joined Smurfit Westrock in 2000 and has held a number of roles in operations across the Group in Argentina, France and Ireland before moving to the UK, where he managed a number of corrugated box plants. In 2016, he took up the position of Head of Investor Relations for the Group, a position he held until 2021. Garrett holds a bachelor's degree in Commerce from University College Dublin and has completed his postgraduate studies with the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership. He was appointed as Director to the Smurfit Westrock Foundation in 2022, and to Business for Biodiversity Ireland in 2026. 

Martina is the CEO and Publisher of The Educational Company of Ireland (Edco), a fully owned subsidiary of Smurfit Westrock. Martina joined Smurfit Westrock in 1991 on the Graduate Management Training Programme, and has held a number of roles in Sales and General Management before her appointment as Edco CEO in 2008. Martina is a member of the Smurfit Westrock German Supervisory Board and is also a member of the Institute of Directors, Ireland. Martina was appointed as Director to Smurfit Westrock Foundation in May 2026.

Appointed CEO Smurfit Westrock Argentina & Chile in 2024. He joined the company in 2003 as Marketing Manager. Since then, he held different positions in the Corrugated division. In 2016, he moved to Miami (USA) as an Account Director working with pan-regional clients. One year later, he returned to Argentina to take over as General Manager of Corrugated for the Central-South Region. In January 2021, he was promoted to Director of the Corrugated Division for Argentina & Chile. Rodrigo was appointed as Advisor to Smurfit Westrock Foundation in January 2025.

Appointed CEO of Smurfit Westrock France in 2022. Andrew is a graduate of Harvard Business School and has a Master’s Degree in Economic Science from University College Dublin along with a number of other postgraduate qualifications. He began his career with Smurfit Westrock on the Irish Graduate program in 2000 and has held various leadership roles across different divisions and countries, including France, Italy and Pan European Sales. Prior to his current role, he served as Vice President of Technical and Operational Excellence at the company's European headquarters in Amsterdam starting in 2019. Andrew was appointed as Advisor to Smurfit Westrock Foundation in January 2025

Nicki joined Smurfit Westrock in 2020. Over her 20-year career, Nicki has held various management roles across strategic communications, marketing communications, employee engagement, and reputation management. Nicki holds a Bachelor's Honours Degree, as well as a Certificate in Communicating for Influence and Impact from the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership. Nicki is a Certified Member of the Institute of Internal Communication and a member of the Public Relations Institute of Ireland. Nicki was appointed as Advisor to Smurfit Westrock Foundation in May 2024.

Tammy joined Smurfit Westrock in 2023, leading Internal Communications, and oversaw communications for the Integration Management Office during the combination. Previously, she led Culture and Employee Engagement at NCR Corporation and held leadership roles in communications, marketing, quality, and finance at General Electric. Tammy holds a Master of Business Administration from Emory University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Louisville. Tammy was appointed as Advisor to Smurfit Westrock Foundation in May 2025.
